Rohtang Pass, situated at an elevation of 3,978 meters (13,050 feet) in the Pir Panjal Range, is the legendary "gateway" connecting Manali to the Lahaul and Spiti valleys. Opening Status: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) typically finishes snow clearance in late May. In 2026, the pass officially reopened for tourists on May 17.
Atal Tunnel Factor: While the newer Atal Tunnel provides year-round access to Lahaul, Rohtang Pass remains the preferred choice for those specifically seeking "Snow Points" and the classic high-altitude pass experience.
Snow Walls: Visiting in late May or early June allows you to drive through spectacular 15–20 foot walls of snow on either side of the road.
